Because of it’s alkaline base, baking soda acts as a cleaning agent causing dirt and grease to dissolve easily in water. It neutralizes ordors and is mildly abrasive making it a gentle yet effective cleaning solution for bathrooms and kitchens.
I make a baking soda paste that is great for cleaning soap scum from bathroom sinks, tiles and tubs. It involves mixing baking soda with vinegar and liquid soap. A chemical reaction occurs during mixing turning the mixture into a creamy cleaning paste. Add a little liquid soap and you have a great bathroom cleaner that smells ooh sooo good.
Recipe:
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- 2 tablespoons of vinegar
- 2 tablespoon of Lavendar Castille Liquid Soap
- 1 to 2 drops of lavender or tea tree oil
Stir ingredients into a smooth, creamy paste. Add a couple of drops of water to remove any lumps while stirring. Transfer mixture to a 5 ounce container with a top and use as needed to clean bathroom tub, tile and sinks.
Here are some other uses for baking soda:
- You can cut the amount of chlorine bleach used in your wash by half when you add 1/4 cup to front loading washers and 1/2 a cup to top loading machines. This will also make your clothes smell clean and fresh
- Use your soap paste on a lightly dampened area of a microfiber cloth to clean and deodorize all bathroom surfaces
