best cleaning techniques

This is my recommended list of must do’s for improving the quality of indoor air in your home:

vacuums with HEPA filters

These are a must for those who suffer from allergies, asthma, sinus problems and other upper respiratory illnesses. HEPA is an acronym for “high efficiency particulate air”. This filter can trap a large amount of very small particles that other vacuum cleaners would simply recirculate back into the air of your home.  HEPA filters remove those particles, leaving the air cleaner.

These vacuums are price competitive and they are simply better for overall health.  Many models can be purchased for under $200.  And any investment in one would be a good investment.

It is very important to clean your vacuum at least once a month, removing parts and trays containing filters that require cleaning.  This will extend the life of the vacuum and improve its suction capacity.

indoor air quality

17 studies on the link between green cleaning and productivity, documented a reduction in reported symptoms of asthma, flu, sick building syndrome, respiratory problems and headaches (an average improvement of 41 percent).

Sustainability starts with a switch. Not just with the changing of a light bulb or cleaning solutions, but with a fundamental shift in our stewardship of the earth’s resources—and how we regard our obligation to all life on the planet, now and for future generations.
